The clinic was once a lake house in an affluent vacation community.  The lake provided water to the houses as well as entertainment.  Because of the volcanos all around, there are places in the lake where the water is almost scalding hot and other places where it is cold.  This provided the house with easy hot and cold water right from the lake.  

Now, however, the lake has been polluted by runoff from upstream.  It is so bad we were warned not to touch the water.  The local people still drink it and wash their clothes in it daily.  I have no idea what the long term consequences will be, but clean water is a critical problem here.
